Alexis Halper
2nd Grade, Room 214
As a Chicago native, I began my teaching career in 2005 as an assistant teacher at a small private school downtown. Since then, I have worked in both public and private schools in a variety of roles. I earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University in 2007, and I actively participate in professional development activities in order to remain up to date on best practices for education.
I strongly believe that all students, regardless of their learning style and ability level, deserve quality educational opportunities that help them achieve their highest potential. I am proud to be part of the HILA community where this spirit is embodied every day.
This year my students will focus on core reading and writing skills, preparing them for higher expectations in upper grade levels and the state testing that will take place during their third grade year. Throughout the year we will complete interdisciplinary units so that the same core skills are worked on in language arts, math, science, and social studies. I believe the best learner is an active learner, so we will learn using different mediums in addition to reading and writing including poetry, songs, movement, & art projects.
Please feel free to make an appointment to stop by the classroom – I’d love to show you our learning space and all the work the students have displayed in the room. I can be reached by e-mail at ahalper@thehopeinstitute.us at any time. Cheers to a great 2011-12 school year!
