Haley Birnbaum
2nd Grade, Room 212

Dear 2nd grade students and families,

Welcome to Room 212. My name is Haley Birnbaum and I am very excited to be joining the Hope Institute Learning Academy community and teaching second grade this year. Prior to coming to HILA, I worked in elementary schools in Seattle, New York and Chicago through a non-profit organization called City Year. Following my time with City Year, I returned to school and received my Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Currently, I am a certified classroom teacher and a Reading Specialist. I know how important reading and writing are and I use various strategies to help your child succeed as a reader and a writer across disciplines.

I love teaching and do my very best to make sure your child will be as successful as he/she can be in my class. Activities will be designed that are hands-on and cater to a wide variety of learning styles. In addition, cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy, and self-control will be taught in an integrated fashion throughout the school day as I strive to develop a classroom community where everyone feels at home.
When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am also an avid sports fan and can be found both playing and watching many sports.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone at (773) 534-7405 or by email at hbirnbaum@thehopeinstitute.us.
