Laura Tye, Case Manager

Laura TyeCase Manager

My name is Laura Tye and I have been the Case Manager here at The Hope Institute Learning Academy since January, 2010. My previous title of Student and Family Support Coordinator sums up my role here. I coordinate services for students with disabilities who require additional educational supports as well as students with any medical condition that could affect their progress at school. If parents suspect that their child may have a disability that is affecting their education, they would work with the teacher and myself to address it.

I have been a special educator for 15 years now. My first career was in the computer field, but for a variety of reasons I completed my Masters in Special education and became a special education teacher in the Chicago Public Schools in 1996. After 5 years at an elementary school in CPS, I took a position with a social service agency that provides therapeutic day programs for at risk high school students in the Chicago Public Schools and Evanston. I taught there for 5 years and then acted as Case Manager, and Reintegration Facilitator as well as continuing to teach part of the day for the next 3 years. I also provided teacher training and mentoring to our wonderful staff.

A unique opportunity presented itself here at The Hope Institute Learning Academy. I have the opportunity to use my expertise to facilitate the writing and implementation of excellent learning plans for our students while at the same time learning from a highly qualified staff about working with students on the autism spectrum. Being part of a new school with the lofty goal of responsibly integrating students will all disabilities into the general education program is very exciting and challenging.

I enjoy working with our staff, our students and their families to ensure a quality education for each student. I also have the pleasure to work with students in social groups and other capacities to help them reach their full potential as happy, productive members of the school community. Please feel free to contact me any time via email or phone and to meet if you have the time.

It is a pleasure to serve the students and families of HILA,

Laura Tye, M.A. Special Education
