HILA offers a continuum of specialized learning environments including highly supported classrooms, transitional (resource) classrooms, and co-teaching environments in order to meet the needs of all students with special needs. HILA promotes responsible inclusion meaning all students with special needs are included in the general education setting as much as they are able given their current IEP and skill levels. HILA offers related services as determined in the students IEP including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, and physical therapy.
Instruction employs evidence-based methodologies such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies and techniques and Structured Teaching strategies and principals. Ongoing data based decisions are made to assess and modify individual student programming as determined in the IEP.
Services emphasize increasing instructional skills and socially appropriate behaviors across all school settings. Special education services support a team approach promoting the collaboration between special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and parents.
